Chari Kelly (Democrat Challenger)
Chari Kelly is an assistant district attorney in the Travis County. She is a former assistant attorney general in the Texas Attorney General’s Office Civil Medicaid Fraud Division and a former research attorney for the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals. She is an adjunct professor at The University of Texas School of Law and a former Judge Advocate General’s Corps (JAG) Officer in the U.S. Army Trial Defense Service. After law school, Kelly clerked at the Texas Court of Criminal Appeals.
Kelly received a bachelor’s degree from the University of Florida and a law degree from The University of Texas School of Law. She has been licensed to practice law by the State Bar of Texas since 2007. She is board certified in criminal law.
Scott Field (Republican Incumbent)
Justice Scott Field has served on the Third Court of Appeals since 2013. He clerked for Texas Supreme Court Justice Raul Gonzalez.
Field received a bachelor’s degree in political science from Texas A&M University, graduating summa cum laude, and a law degree from The University of Texas School of Law. He has been licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1995.
Field is a former course director and planning committee member for the State Bar of Texas Advanced Administrative Law Conference, a member of the State Bar of Texas Appellate and Judicial sections, and a past member of the Texas Bar Foundation Insurance and Litigation sections.
Justice Field has been endorsed by TLRPAC, the Texas Civil Justice League PAC and former Texas Supreme Court justices Tom Phillips, Scott Brister and Wallace Jefferson.
