Peter Kelly (Democrat Challenger)
Peter Kelly is an attorney and is chair of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association Amicus Committee and past president of the Texas Trial Lawyers Association.
Kelly received a bachelor’s degree cum laude from Harvard University with departmental honors and a law degree from The University of Texas Law School, where he was scholarly publications editor for the Texas International Law Journal. He has been licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 1994. He is board certified in civil appellate law.
Jennifer Caughey (Republican Incumbent)
Before being appointed to this court by Gov. Abbott in 2017, Justice Caughey handled civil litigation at the trial and appellate levels and she also worked in the U.S. Department of Justice Civil Division Commercial Litigation Branch. She clerked for Justice Timothy M. Tymkovich on the U.S. 10th Circuit Court of Appeals and Justice Robert Cordy on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
Caughey received a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and a law degree from Harvard University, where she was executive editor of the Journal of Law and Public Policy and a member of the Federalist Society Executive Board. She has been licensed by the State Bar of Texas since 2008.
